1824 Census document for Ombline Desbassayns

Census of Ombline Gonneau-Montbrun, widow Panon-Desbassayns, with a list of her 461 slaves.

Excerpt from the census form of the Desbassayns estate. 1824.

The following elements were to be included on the annual census forms completed by estate owners: the number, name, sex and age of the persons in the family; the name, sex and age of each slave, existence of married couples, any specific characteristics enabling him or her to be identified; indication of births, deaths and any other changes occurring since the previous census – purchases, sales, donations, inheritances, emancipations, escaped slaves etc.
